11th Annual Great Southern Grass Drag Nationals,

Swap, & Vintage Snowmobile Show

Douglas, MN

October 8th & 9th, 2005

Tom Anderson submitted these pictures of the 11th Annual Great Southern Grass Drag Nationals, Swap, and Vintage Snowmobile Show held in Douglas, MN. The show is hosted by the Byron Snow Bears, which maintains nearly 40 miles of pristine Minnesota trails that surround the nearby areas of Rochester, Minnesota.

The show was unfortunately affected by poor weather with tons of heavy rain downpours, thunder, and lighting, but attendees managed to make the best of a wet and muddy situation. I actually attended the event myself, but was sent away by the pounding rain just 45 minutes into my visit. As a result, I didn't get any pictures of the event. Thanks, Tom, for your pictures!

This next picture shows Rick Weaver's 1976 Magnum. But, check over the picture closely. You can see two Ski-Doo Blizzards in the background, a 1973 and a 1972 292, both owned by Al Bruggenthies. And behind those sleds are a 1975 Merc Sno-Twister and Rick's 1974 Rupp 3rd Dimension.

Despite the poor weather, some of the area's finest original and restored snowmobiles managed to show up and the swap area was loaded with great vintage values as well. Shown below are some super nice older Ski-Doos, a 1969 Mini Sno, a 1979 John Deere Spitfire, and a 1972 Arctic Cat EXT.
