11th Annual Great Southern Grass Drag Nationals, Swap, & Vintage Snowmobile Show Douglas, MN October 8th & 9th, 2005 Tom Anderson submitted these pictures of the 11th Annual Great Southern Grass Drag Nationals, Swap, and Vintage Snowmobile Show held in Douglas, MN. The show is hosted by the Byron Snow Bears, which maintains nearly 40 miles of pristine Minnesota trails that surround the nearby areas of Rochester, Minnesota. Shown From Left to Right: 1975 Ski-Doo TNT F/A-Tom Anderson 1976 John Deere Liquifire - Michael Riley 1984 John Deere Sportfire - Michael Riley This picture below shows Snow Bear President, Ray Price, sitting on the Arctic Cat Panther which won the President's Choice Award. Arctic Cat "Big Mouth" Panther, Owner: Chad Mielke Winner- President's Choice Award The show was unfortunately affected by poor weather with tons of heavy rain downpours, thunder, and lighting, but attendees managed to make the best of a wet and muddy situation. I actually attended the event myself, but was sent away by the pounding rain just 45 minutes into my visit. As a result, I didn't get any pictures of the event. Thanks, Tom, for your pictures! Left: 1975 Yamaha GPX MOD, Owner: Rick & Clyde Stockey Right: 1974 Arctic Cat El Tigre, Owner: Kevin Weitzel This next picture shows Rick Weaver's 1976 Magnum. But, check over the picture closely. You can see two Ski-Doo Blizzards in the background, a 1973 and a 1972 292, both owned by Al Bruggenthies. And behind those sleds are a 1975 Merc Sno-Twister and Rick's 1974 Rupp 3rd Dimension. 1976 Rupp Magnum, Owner: Rick Weaver Despite the poor weather, some of the area's finest original and restored snowmobiles managed to show up and the swap area was loaded with great vintage values as well. Shown below are some super nice older Ski-Doos, a 1969 Mini Sno, a 1979 John Deere Spitfire, and a 1972 Arctic Cat EXT. 1966 Ski-Doo Olympic & 1965 Ski-Doo Chalet (Best Of Show) Owner: Al Bruggenthies Left: 1969 Mini Sno, Owner: Ron Meier Right: 1979 John Deere Spitfire, Owner: Scot Martin (Class Winner) 1972 Arctic Cat EXT 440, Owner: Chad Mielke 1971 Arctic Cat Puma (2004 Best Of Show Winner) Owner: Kevin Weitzel
