12th Annual Great Southern Grass Drag Nationals,

Swap, & Vintage Snowmobile Show

Douglas, MN

October 7th & 8th, 2006

I'll admit it. I was a little cautious about watching the weather forecast last Thursday night before the show. After needing a canoe and snorkel to peruse last year's show, I was expecting the forecast to call for rain. Surprisingly, the forecast was for sunny and warm temperatures. With renewed optimism, I loaded up two show sleds and headed to Douglas for a great show, fantastic swap deals, and even better racing. I was not disappointed. The weather was nearly perfect with highs in the low 70's with sunny skies and brisk winds to keep everybody cool.

This show, which is hosted by the Byron Snow Bears, is quickly becoming one of the premier events of snowmobiling. Nearly 100 high quality show sleds (about 85) appeared from the tri-state area, with the race sled class having at least 10 potential class winners. Listed below are some of the many sleds I saw at the show. In all honesty, this is just a small sampling of the machines on display.

The next few pictures show a bit of the variety of sleds found at this year's show, including several unique race sleds like the 1971 Ski Daddler XX1650, the 1975 John Deere 340/S, and a Roll-O-Flex 340 Wild One.
